I’ve long talked with people about how they can avoid it or dig themselves out from it…
…and a conversation with a client turned to how to not get overwhelmed with the variety of things they could do to
make progress
- no carbs?
- carnivore?
- 10k steps per day?
- workout 6 days per week?
- drink over a gallon water?
- cardio everyday?
It’s common for someone to go through about 20 things they feel are ‘must dos’ after listening to ‘experts.’
I get overwhelmed just listening to it all :)
I guess I just don’t think of fitness that way.
With all the rigid rules and guideline, one thing is forgetten...
We are all different!
More now than ever with the many different environments we grow up in, the different
food selections, the chemicals.... ect
A good place to start is, what is your goal?
For instance becoming the best mom you can be and becoming a competitive powerlifter requires different modes of
training.
And then how can you get to that point form where you are without the whole process sucking :)
See, if the process sucks…it'll become a short term deal.
After you identify your goal/destination, it's time to
- Mentally prepare. Read about the style of training your leaning towards. Find role models/influencers that are doing
it. Visualize what it may feel like to run through those workouts, eat the meals, ect....
- Pick a plan and stick to it. At least 3 weeks. Far to often people do not see a change after 10 days or so and they are ready to abandon ship. A lot of the time, the initial changes are happening in the inside, where you can't see. Give it time to come through.
- Write it down!! You will be sooo happy you did 2-3 months down the road. It's difficult to really remember what you've done or remember what worked and what didn't. Also if you hire a coach, it's so much easier to see what you've done and what direction to go.
These sound like tips for a beginner. But anyone in a funk or not making progress can afford to hit the reset button
and give these tips a try.
We may not be able to avoid overwhelm but we can bounce back!!
