Inflammation is a topic of discussion everyday between my clients and I.
For a couple of weeks, lets dive deep into what is and what causes inflammation in the human body.
Let's start with stress and inflammation.
Chronic stress can lead to inflammation in the body through various physiological pathways. Here's a little simplified explanation of the
process:
Hormonal Response: When you experience stress, your body releases hormones like cortisol and adrenaline as part of the fight-or-flight response. These hormones are beneficial in the short term as they increase alertness and energy.
However, chronic stress can lead to prolonged elevation of cortisol levels, which can dysregulate the immune system and contribute to inflammation.
Immune System
Dysregulation: Cortisol, the primary stress hormone, plays a crucial role in regulating the immune system. Chronic stress can disrupt this balance, leading to overactivity of the immune system. This overactivity can result in increased production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, molecules that promote inflammation.
Stress Response Management
- Improve your physical health
- Control your
breathing
- Mindfulness
- Dance, sing, play music, play with a pet
- Mix with happy people
- Laugh at the world and yourself
- Let go of things you can live without
I hope this gets you thinking about your own inflammation and things you can do to reduce.
